Position Summary
Potential Schedule
- Wednesday – Sunday shift from 9:30AM – 6:00 PM.
The Kitchen Supervisor is a hands-on leader who supports the Kitchen Manager and serves as a bridge between kitchen staff and management. This position helps oversee daily food-service operations, staff performance, food quality, inventory, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate has experience preparing meals in a high-volume kitchen and demonstrates compassion when serving older adults and individuals with diverse needs in a residential setting. This role is essential to providing safe, nutritious, and consistent meals that meet guests’ dietary needs.
Responsibilities and Initiatives

Support daily kitchen operations, including opening and closing procedures, staff assignments, preparation schedules, and workstation organization.

Help supervise kitchen staff and provide training on food preparation, equipment use, sanitation, and safety procedures.

Participate in meal preparation, including washing, peeling, and chopping produce; preparing and marinating proteins; and completing other assigned cooking duties.

Ensure meals are properly prepared, cooked, portioned, and served according to approved recipes, quality standards, and dietary requirements.

Assist with planning nutritious, cost-effective menus that accommodate special dietary needs.

Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control, and meal-service consistency.

Maintain compliance with food-safety regulations, sanitation standards, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures.

Ensure the kitchen, food-preparation areas, three-compartment sink, appliances, storage areas, and dining room remain clean, sanitary, and organized.

Monitor the organization, cleanliness, and temperature controls of walk-in coolers, freezers, and other food-storage areas.

Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, unpacking, and restocking while monitoring food costs and minimizing waste.

Work collaboratively with team members to provide guests with a positive and supportive dining experience.

Help guide and educate participants from community partnerships and internship programs.

Follow and support all organizational policies, procedures, and workplace expectations.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum of two years of food-preparation or commercial-kitchen experience.

Experience preparing meals for large groups or in a high-volume food-service environment.

Working knowledge of dietary restrictions, nutritional needs, food-safety practices, and sanitation requirements.

Ability to provide hands-on direction and support to kitchen staff.

Strong leadership, organizational, time-management, and communication skills.

Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.

Ability to work respectfully and effectively with older adults and individuals experiencing behavioral challenges or other unique needs.

Ability to follow recipes, instructions, policies, and established kitchen procedures.

Flexibility to work an additional day or adjusted schedule when operationally necessary.

ServSafe certification or equivalent food-safety training preferred.

Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Bilingual English and Spanish skills preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
The duties of this position require prolonged standing and frequent walking. The employee must regularly bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, turn, reach above the shoulders, and push or pull equipment and supplies.
The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Good manual dexterity is required when handling hot cookware, sharp utensils, kitchen tools, and food-service equipment.
The employee must be able to communicate effectively, hear equipment alarms and verbal instructions, and work safely in areas with elevated noise levels. The position may involve exposure to hot surfaces, steam, cold-storage areas, cleaning products, and changing kitchen temperatures.
