A Diesel Mechanics diesel mechanic inspects, repairs, and maintains diesel-powered vehicles and equipment such as trucks, buses, construction machinery, and agricultural equipment.

 

Typical Duties

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems
• Repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering systems
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
• Use diagnostic software and tools
• Test vehicles after repairs
• Maintain service records and comply with safety regulations

 

Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment
• Mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Physical stamina and hand-tool proficiency
• High school diploma or GED

 

Auto mechanic repairs and maintains passenger vehicles, including cars, SUVs, and light trucks.

Typical Duties

• Perform oil changes, tire rotations, and brake service
• Diagnose engine and electrical issues
• Repair vehicle systems including suspension, cooling, and exhaust
• Conduct inspections and emissions testing
• Explain repairs to customers
