Job Summary

This position handles all Work Comp scheduling for patients, including pre-op and post-op appointments, verifying insurance, obtaining surgery authorizations, and health clearances. The coordinator ensures all pre-op studies are scheduled and completed, and that clinical staff and OR times are scheduled for the procedure. This role serves as a primary point of contact for the patient and acts as a liaison with the physician, patient, and other departments, both internal and external, providing resource and support to patients before, during, and after surgery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle all Work Comp scheduling for patients, including pre-op and post-op appointments, verifying insurance, obtaining surgery authorizations, and health clearances for the patient
  • Ensure all pre-op studies are scheduled and completed, and that clinical staff and OR times are scheduled for the procedure
  • Review with the patient the risks and benefits of surgery/procedure per the doctor's orders, and enlist the patient in the appropriate education classes before the surgery as directed by the Physician
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for the patient, and act as a liaison with the physician, patient and other departments, both internal and external; serve as a resource and support to the patients before, during, and after surgery
  • Ensure that all arrangements have been made for each surgical procedure, including obtaining necessary special equipment requested by the physician for specific procedures
  • Serve as a resource (pre, post, and during surgery) and support the patients by responding to patient inquiries and complaints; if needed, provide service recovery and/or escalate issues to the supervisor when necessary
  • Provide direct concierge coordination between office and patient designee
  • Manage physician referral work queues by completing referrals
  • Handle physician correspondence, forms and requests for authorizations, and the physician's calendar and other transcription needs as required
  • Prepare charts and review/perform/update demographics and insurance information
  • Work with the billing team to provide information for requested audits and ensure that the appropriate surgical reports and charges are sent to the billing department
  • Collaborate with workers comp adjusters and case managers on worker's comp requests for authorizations and follow up to ensure completion of authorization and documentation
  • Provide clinical or administrative support based on operational needs

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma (HSD) or GED

Required Experience

  • 2 years of experience with Workers' Comp claims
  • Experience with Epic EMR
  • * Work Comp experience required *

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Previous experience as PSR or MA
  • Orthopedics setting preferred
