Role Summary
Our client, a modern tax and advisory firm serving entrepreneurs, investors, and small businesses, is seeking a Tax Manager to manage client relationships and deliver both tax compliance and strategic advisory services.
This position is a high-impact, client-facing role where the Tax Manager will oversee a portfolio of business and individual clients while advising on tax planning and compliance matters. The role offers the opportunity to work in a fully remote environment while collaborating with a team that emphasizes technical excellence, strong communication, and practical tax strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of tax clients and act as the primary contact for tax advisory and compliance matters.
- Prepare and review business tax returns including Forms 1065, 1120S, and 1120, as well as individual tax returns.
- Provide tax guidance to clients with a strategy-focused and practical advisory approach.
- Maintain strong client relationships by delivering responsive, high-quality service.
- Mentor and support junior staff through review, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
- Conduct tax research and stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations.
- Communicate technical findings clearly to clients and internal teams.
- Help improve internal workflows, documentation, and operational processes.
- Collaborate effectively in a fully remote team environment while maintaining availability during Central Time business hours.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of tax and/or accounting experience.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Tax Manager in a regional CPA firm or small accounting firm.
- Strong hands-on experience preparing and reviewing:
- Form 1065 (Partnership returns)
- Form 1120S (S-Corporation returns)
- Form 1120 (C-Corporation returns)
- Individual tax returns
- Recent remote work experience required.
- Experience managing client relationships and coordinating with staff.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- Strong communication skills and a client-service mindset.
- U.S. Citizenship required (no sponsorship available).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing Schedule E and Schedule C returns.
- Experience working with small businesses, partnerships, S-Corps, and real estate clients.
- Experience with multi-state tax filings.
- Familiarity with ProConnect, QuickBooks, and/or Xero.
- Experience with California, Oregon, New York, or New Jersey state tax matters.
- CPA or EA designation (preferred but not required).
- Experience in small or mid-sized accounting firms; candidates from large firms are preferred to also have smaller firm experience.
Compensation & Work Model
- Salary Range: $100,000 – $200,000 annually depending on experience.
- Work Model: Fully remote within the United States.
- Time Zone Requirement: Must work at least 80% of the day during Central Time business hours.
- Relocation: Not provided.
