This position is for a professional services firm located in Torrance, CA, providing comprehensive accounting, tax, and payroll solutions to a wide range of domestic and international clients, particularly within the Japanese business community. As a Payroll & Accounting Specialist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate financial operations while supporting clients across multiple industries.
The ideal candidate has experience in both payroll processing and general accounting and thrives in a client-facing, fast-paced environment. Bilingual skills in English and Japanese are highly valued, as is a background in public accounting or outsourced bookkeeping.
(Responsibilities)
- Process payroll for client employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments
- Maintain payroll records, employee data, and manage tax withholdings and deductions
- Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from clients and their employees
- Perform bookkeeping duties including AR/AP, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Support monthly and year-end closings, including subledger and bank reconciliations
- Prepare financial statements (balance sheet, income statement) and reporting packages for clients and headquarters
- File and process sales/use tax, property tax, and other business filings
- Assist in preparing and filing corporate and individual tax returns
- Support clients during audits and financial reviews
- Communicate with clients in both English and Japanese (as applicable) to ensure high service quality
(Qualifications)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
- Experience in payroll processing and full-cycle bookkeeping/accounting
- Experience in public accounting or with outsourced service providers is a plus
- CPA or Enrolled Agent certification is a strong advantage
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online, Sage, and/or ERP systems
- Strong Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Bilingual in English and Japanese highly preferred
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously
- $45,000–$70,000/year (Depending on Experience)
