As VERSE continues its growth, we are seeking a Host who understands that hospitality begins at the door — and that managing flow in a high-volume, high-expectation environment requires strategy, awareness, and control.

This position reports to the Director of Hospitality and Floor Management team and plays a critical role in protecting both guest experience and operational efficiency.

Position Overview

The Host sets the tone for the guest experience from arrival through departure.

In a high-volume setting, seating is not transactional — it directly impacts kitchen execution, wine sales, service timing, and overall perception. This role requires strong situational awareness and the ability to control pace without sacrificing warmth or professionalism.

Success in this role is measured by:

  • Controlled and intentional seating flow
  • Accuracy in reservation and guest data management
  • Clear, composed communication during peak volume
  • Consistent guest experience despite service intensity

Service & Floor Responsibilities

  • Greet every guest with warmth, confidence, and professionalism
  • Manage reservations and walk-ins with fairness and clarity
  • Control seating pace to support kitchen capacity and floor balance
  • Maintain accurate wait times and real-time table awareness
  • Communicate effectively with Captains, Support Staff, and Management
  • Close guest departures with presence and gratitude

The ability to remain calm and authoritative during peak service is essential.

Headset Communication Standards (Peak Service)

During high-volume evenings, Hosts operate within a structured headset communication system connecting:

  • Inside Host
  • Outside Host
  • Floor Manager
  • Support Staff

Expectations include:

  • Clear, concise, and professional communication
  • Real-time table status updates
  • Coordinated staggered seating
  • Immediate notification of large party arrivals or delays
  • Controlled tone at all times

This structure supports high-volume execution without compromising quality.

Reservation & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate guest notes and preferences
  • Optimize floor plans to balance guest experience and revenue
  • Confirm private dining and large party details
  • Manage phone and digital inquiries professionally
  • Uphold brand voice in all written and verbal communication

Attention to detail directly impacts service consistency and revenue performance.

Qualifications & Professional Profile

Required:

  • Prior hosting experience in an upscale, high-volume environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage pressure without visible stress
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Active California Food Handler certification (or ability to obtain)

Strongly Preferred:

  • Experience using OpenTable (highly valued)
  • Fine dining experience
  • Understanding of dining room pacing strategy and table turns
