Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience, who wants to work and grow as a team player within our progressive multi‑discipline firm. Ideal applicants will be well versed in all aspects of mechanical design and project management, comfortable consulting to owners and general contractors, and have a desire to work as part of a multi‑discipline engineering team.

The mission of this role is to expand our 14‑person mechanical group’s capabilities into healthcare, education, data centers, and other target markets. This engineer will serve as a technical leader, bringing expertise in complex project design and execution while mentoring the team for long‑term growth. They will help us build the next generation of mechanical engineering leadership at Coffman, ensuring the team is well positioned to handle increasing diverse and sophisticated projects while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and innovation.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Approximate Base Salary – $130k–$180k based on experience
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
  • Competitive end‑of‑year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance
  • Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)
  • 401(k) with maximum of 5% contribution matching for 9% employee contribution

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical design, piping design, and/or process design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with HVAC and plumbing system design for buildings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, education, federal and DOD, science and technology, and/or data center projects a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of California building codes and California AHJs
  • Project Management experience and/or certifications
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and communication skills

  • Must be a self‑starter who sees the big picture and connects the vision of the company with their job, is persistent, and follows through consistently
  • Passionate about the client or pursuit and takes ownership of work
  • Able to multi‑task and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities)
  • Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities)
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe InDesign software preferred; must understand database concepts, working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resources files
  • General knowledge of firm’s practice, clientele, goals, policies, and procedures
  • Basic understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures and basic marketing principles
  • Able to work independently, as a team member, and as a team leader
  • Strong organizational ability; detail oriented; high degree of accuracy
  • Must work well under pressure
  • Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
