The Opportunity: The Director, Global Regulatory, Compliance & CPSC Reporting will report to the VP of Product Safety, Regulatory, Compliance & Quality Digital Transformation and Systems group. They will work with global internal and external stakeholders to ensure all products meet safety and quality requirements by managing the team that creates and revises all corporate policies and procedures related to product and packaging compliance. This role is also responsible for all CPSC and Health Canada reporting obligations. It serves as a thought leader, practical advisor, compliance trainer, regulatory advocate, and product safety role model for the global enterprise.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Manage a highly sophisticated group that reviews and understands all proposed and enacted global regulatory requirements and synthesizes them into company QSOPs and GQMPs, including those related to chemical compliance.
  • Assess, review and manage the Regulatory & Compliance global budget.
  • Ensure global representation on appropriate standards organizations including ISO and ASTM; represent Mattel’s position and ensure core information is included within QSOPs and GQMPs.
  • Ensure global regulatory requirements are converted into the appropriate QSOPs and GQMPs.
  • Team management: multiple direct reports including Leaders of the Global Chemical Regulatory & Compliance team; APAC and Labs Regulatory & Compliance team; EA Campus Lead Regulatory & Compliance QE; ES Campus Lead Regulatory & Compliance QE; Manufacturing Regulatory & Compliance QE; Corporate Policies and Procedures Regulatory & Compliance QE; CPSC Reporting Team Lead.
  • Collaborate with the head of EMEA compliance to interpret worldwide regulatory requirements.
  • Align with the head of government affairs to advise on incoming legislation in NA and worldwide to minimize business interruptions.
  • Lead engagement with Quality Engineering to train on relevant global policies and procedures.
  • Lead engagement related to CPSC Reporting, Health Canada reporting and related safety issues.
  • Manage recalls execution and related issues with Global Consumers as applicable.
  • Lead engagement with Global Labs to train on policies and procedures.
  • Lead engagement with legal partners to ensure understanding and application of policies and procedures.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Compliance, Regulations, or equivalent work experience.
  • 15+ years of experience at a consumer products company; experience with toys and juvenile products preferred.
  • 10+ years knowledge of product safety regulations including CPSIA, CFR, and related state regulations.
  • Experience engaging with CPSC, Health Canada, and/or PROFECO.
  • Experience with global product safety and compliance regulators.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • High integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Resourceful, diplomatic, professional; strong customer service mindset and ability to lead teams, collaborate, and build positive relationships.
  • Ability to lead, influence, and work within cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborative leader with results orientation and sense of urgency.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; able to work with all levels and external partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and procurement systems software.
