Adult Instructor

The Tuscarora Intermediate Unit invites applicants for a Full or Part-time Adult Instructor. To be considered for an open position, applicants must upload the following required clearances: Act 24 Arrest and Conviction Report, Act 34 Pennsylvania Criminal History Clearance, Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, Act 114 Federal Criminal History Clearance. Instruction is provided in community-based locations throughout Mifflin and Juniata Counties, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact with diverse populations. Fundamental Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Provide instruction and/or assistance in programs and activities operated by the TIU Community Education & Workforce Services.
  • Provide instruction in a variety of subject areas as needed at the life skill, employment preparation, Career Pathways, adult basic education, and General Educational Development levels for adults transitioning to post-secondary education and employment and youth.
  • Prepare instructional curriculum based on scientific, evidence based research.
  • Assemble material to be presented.
  • Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids and classroom presentations to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Assist students individually and in groups.
  • Instruct participants individually and in small groups using a variety of methods including explicit, contextualized, and computer-aided instruction.
  • Maintain student attendance and confidential records.
  • Provide clients with referrals and case management as needed.
  • Work with students to prepare and follow up individual Career Pathways plans.
  • Provide services in office, home, and other settings as assigned.
  • Conduct intakes and assessments of students.
  • Collaborate for integration of instruction with workforce development and other available services.
  • Participate in program improvement activities.
  • Gather and analyze data for decision making.
  • Lift, move, carry and otherwise transport supplies and office equipment within office and to external locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director and/or assigned supervisory staff.
  • Recruit, match, and monitor classroom aides.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in English with others in all levels of group and individual contacts.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently with good time management skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to use technology proficiently in all aspects of position.
  • Ability to present oneself in a business-like manner to include personal appearance and a pleasant demeanor to others.
  • Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to use technology for program management, client record keeping, and instruction.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of an instructional, case management team.
  • Ability to provide engaging instructional activities.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual needs of student.
  • Ability to apply concepts and information acquired from meetings, conferences, or related literature to accomplish project goals.
  • Ability to provide personal, reliable vehicle for travel requirements.

Qualification Standards:

  • Education: possess a bachelor’s degree from a college or university. Teacher certification preferred.
  • Experience: experience and understanding in dealing with the special needs of adult learners.
