Shift Details

Employment Type: Full‑time. Hours per Week: 40. Shift: 7am‑3:30pm, Monday‑Friday. On‑call: Yes, 6‑8 shifts per month with a 30‑minute response time to the facility. Weekends: Yes. Holidays: Yes.

Core Functions

1. Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies, ensuring all instruments are in good working order, reviewing case carts for correct instruments and supplies, and planning ahead for upcoming case needs.
2. Anticipates the surgeon’s needs, passes instruments, and retracts tissue.
3. Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure, disposes of sharps and trash, and places used supplies into the case cart for processing. Participates in counts of sharps, instruments and sponges and prepares instruments for cleaning after each case.
4. Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
5. Assists with OR turnover between cases, participating in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
6. May provide business support to the department, including assigned administrative tasks.
7. Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and current Basic Life Support certification. Must be registered with the State Regulatory Agency where applicable.
• Manual dexterity and the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
• Conscientious, organized, and able to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.
• Ability to stay abreast of new developments in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or at least two years of operating room experience.
• Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
